How to play Would You Rather
Someone reads the question, everyone picks a side, and the person with the most surprising answer explains it. That is the whole game. It works because every question has a catch, so the answer says something about what people value: time or energy, the credit or the learning, being right or being kind.
- Choose a set. Work for a meeting opener, Funny or Superpowers for a party, Deeper for a group that already trusts each other.
- Read the question out loud or share your screen.
- Everyone answers at once. No abstaining, that is the rule.
- Ask one person why. One sentence.
- Three questions is an opener. Ten is a game. Twenty is a long drive.

Tips for using it with a team
- Use it as a check-in substitute: three questions and everyone has spoken once.
- In a remote meeting, let people answer in chat first, then pick two to explain. Quieter people get a fair go.
- Once the team knows their animals, the splits get funnier. The Lions take the credit, the Owls take the learning. See the 31 animal personalities.
- Want something faster? Try the This or That generator. Want a full sentence from each person? Use the icebreaker question generator.
Quick answers
- How does the Would You Rather generator work?
- Pick a category or leave it on All, and the generator shows one question at a time from a shuffled queue. Tap the side you would choose, hit Next for another, or Copy 10 to paste a numbered list into chat or a slide.
- Are these Would You Rather questions safe for work?
- Yes. All 135 avoid politics, religion, bodies, money and relationships. The Work set is about meetings, deadlines and office habits, and the Funny set is absurd rather than edgy, so it works for adults without becoming a problem in front of a manager.
- How do I play Would You Rather with a team?
- Read one question, everyone answers at once with hands, a thumbs-up emoji or a shout, then ask one person why. Thirty seconds a question. For a remote stand-up, post one in the channel before the call and let people reply with A or B.
- What is the difference between Would You Rather and This or That?
- This or That is a preference between two ordinary things, such as coffee or tea. Would You Rather is a hypothetical with a catch, such as flying at walking speed or teleporting dizzy. This or That is faster; Would You Rather starts more conversations.
- Can I get a printable list?
- Copy 10 gives you a numbered list from the current filter. Every question is also printed by category further down this page, so you can print the page or copy a whole set.
