How to pick a team name people will actually use

  • Say it out loud first. If it is awkward to announce in a meeting, it will be shortened to something worse within a week.
  • Pick one word that is yours. An in-joke, a place, the animal most of the team turned out to be on the quiz.
  • Avoid dates and projects. Team names outlive both.
  • Let the team vote between three. Deal six, shortlist three, vote in the channel.
  • Match the room. Work style for a Slack channel, Sports & quiz for a scoresheet, Fierce for a leaderboard, Funny for a Friday.

Quick answers

How does the team name generator work?
Pick a style and it builds six names from an adjective and an animal, using a few patterns per style. Tap a name to copy it, or ask for six more. There are 51 animals and dozens of adjectives, so repeats are rare.
Are the names safe for work?
Yes. Every adjective and pattern was chosen so the result can be a Slack channel, a project codename or a slide title without anyone wincing. The Funny set is office-funny, not after-hours funny.
Why animals?
Because animal team names are the ones people remember and rally behind, and because this site is built around 31 animal personalities. If your team takes the quiz, the name can match the animal most of you turned out to be.
Can I use it for a pub quiz, hackathon or charity run?
Yes. The Sports & quiz style adds FC, United and Athletic patterns, and the Fierce style is for hackathons and anything with a leaderboard.
What makes a good team name?
Short enough to say out loud, easy to spell, and with one word that means something to the team: an in-joke, a shared trait, the animal most of you are. Avoid names that only make sense this quarter.
